Brett Whiteley was a force. Wild, poetic, and fearless, he painted the Australian soul with a rawness that few have matched. His blues could swallow you whole, his lines danced between elegance and chaos, and his life — like his art — burned bright and fast.

For me, Whiteley isn’t just another artist in the history books. He’s a companion on the journey, quite possibly my favourite Australian painter of all time. To paint him was to feel that restless spirit brush against my own — a reminder that the only way forward is to give yourself completely to the work, whatever the cost.

This portrait is both a tribute and a thank you: to the man who showed us that art can be both brutal and beautiful, tender and untamed.
