About
Davey Neil is an Australian painter based in Denmark, Western Australia. Working primarily in oils, his practice moves between abstraction, portraiture and landscape, using painting as a way to investigate emotion, memory and the tension between chaos and coherence.
Rather than beginning with fixed ideas, Neil allows paintings to emerge through instinct, correction, removal and response. Earlier marks are often buried, revealed or partially erased, leaving traces of decisions and change visible within the finished surface.
A former tradesman and musician, his work is grounded less in polish than in honesty — embracing imperfection, contradiction and the unresolved nature of being human. Across his practice runs a consistent belief: that art is not something imposed onto the world, but something discovered through deep attention to it.
His work has been exhibited in Western Australia and collected privately both nationally and internationally.
